OUR children are taught lessons in science, mathematics, social studies in school, but one subject which is lacking in our education system is emotional intelligence.
Emotional intelligence refers to the ability of a person to manage and control his or her emotions and possess the ability to control the emotions of others as well.
If we analyse our education system, we find that our education system, teaching methodologies and school activities do not possess such knowledge, skills and aptitudes to help our students develop an understanding of emotions of others as well.
That is why a large number of our people do not know the importance of others feelings — how to empathise with others, how to control or manage our own feelings, and how to behave in a certain situation. This is despite the fact that this is one of the most demanding skills nowadays.
Therefore, our curriculum, education system and teaching and learning process must include tasks, which enhance in our students the knowledge, understanding and skills of emotional intelligence from the very beginning.
