MARDAN: Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai on Monday said his party would continue working for the supremacy of parliament.

Addressing a district bar association function here, the PkMAP chairman said the party won’t accept the orders of the ‘selected government imposed on the country’.

He said the country won’t progress until the Election Commission of Pakistan was empowered.

Mr Achakzai said the authorities concerned should involve Pakhtuns in policymaking process to address their grievances.

“The rulers have to give Pakhtuns the control of their resources, while Pashto should be made the official language of their educational institutions, courts and other government offices,” he said.

The PkMAP chief said had all opposition parties joined the JUI-F Azadi March last year, the PTI government would’ve been ousted.

He said he didn’t understand the rationale behind the talk of high treason case against JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Mr Achakzai praised lawyers for making a struggle and rendering sacrifices to ensure the rule of law in the country.

He said lawyers had to play due role for the supremacy of the Constitution and law in the country.

The lawyer leaders extended complete support and cooperation to the political parties for the strengthening of democracy, judiciary and government institution in line with the Constitution.

PkMAP Senator Usman Kakar, provincial president Mukhtiyar Khan Yousafzai and leaders Khursheed Kakaji, Haji Gohar Khan, Akbar Hoti and Ashraf Khan Hoti, and lawyers attended the function.
