KHAR: After the formal integration of the Levies and Khasadar forces into the police, several officials were officially assigned the rank of sub-inspectors and assistant inspectors in Bajaur tribal district on Wednesday.

A ceremony to this effect was held at the district police office here.

District police officer Pir Shahab Ali Shah awarded sub-inspector and assistant sub-inspector badges to 67 officials of Levies force.

Forty naib subedars were assigned the ASI rank while 27 subedars were given SI designation.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Shah congratulated the new rank holders and said both the posts of SI and ASI were key positions in the police department, which were filled through competitive examinations.

He urged the police officials to perform their jobs with honesty and commitment.

He said police officials in tribal districts would get all the incentives and privileges to help boost their performance.

The sub-inspectors and assistant sub-inspectors also spoke on the occasion and said they were glad to be inducted into the regular police with the same incentives and privileges.

They said getting integrated into the police was their dream come true.

They vowed to perform their duties with spirit to make Bajaur police a model force in the entire tribal districts.

It’s to be mentioned here that the home and tribal affairs department on Feb 10 had notified the merger of Khasdars and Levies into the provincial police department.

A total 1,966 Levies personnel and 475 Kahasadars in Bajaur tribal district have been inducted into the police.

PILLION RIDING BANNED: The authorities on Wednesday banned pillion-riding in Bajaur tribal district during the ongoing anti-polio drive.

According to a statement issued by deputy commissioner Usman Mehsud, the two-day ban would last until Thursday (today).

The statement said the restriction was meant to avoid any unpleasant incident during the anti-polio drive. It said action would be taken against those violating the ban.
