Today’s DIY is literally going to be fun as we are making a yo-yo, a toy that people of all ages love to try at least once in their life, and most of my little friends love it. The good thing is you don’t need a lot of materials in making it.

Note: We strictly recommend adult supervision while using the hot glue.

Things you need:

  1. Two bottle caps (caps of 6-litre water bottle)

  2. Hot glue

  3. Thick thread (36-inches)

  4. One screw (1-inch size)

  5. A piece of any coloured-paper or foam sheet to cover the caps

Directions:

  1. Put the cap on the coloured-paper and draw two circles accordingly, then cut them out, picture 2.

  2. Draw a spiral with any marker, picture 3, put these circles aside.

  3. Make small holes in the centre of both caps, picture 4.

  4. Insert screw from the inside of one cap and then into the outside (top) of the other cap, see pictures 5 and 6.

  5. Tighten the screw, leaving a tiny space between both caps, see picture 7.

  6. Fill one cap with hot glue carefully, then leave it to dry, pictures 8 and 9.

  7. When dry, fill the other cap (the other side) with hot glue and leave it to dry completely.

  8. Paste the paper circles with spiral on both sides of the caps, picture 10.

  9. Make loops at both ends of the thread, but one must be smaller than the other, picture 11.

  10. Insert the bigger loop into the smaller, and tighten it till it reaches the caps’ size, then put it inside the gap of both caps, pictures 12 and 13.

  11. Your very own yo-yo from bottle caps is ready; wrap the thread around it, leaving the loop just above to insert the finger, picture 14.

Spin it and have fun!
