LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday disposed of a habeas corpus petition for the recovery of two brothers allegedly arrested at the behest of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s stepson Ibrahim Maneka.
A law officer told the court that the brothers of the petitioner were in custody of Heyr police for being nominated suspects in a fraud case.
On being summoned, Mr Maneka also appeared before the court.
However, Justice Anwarul Haq Pannun disposed of the petition in light of the police report.
Petitioner Muhammad Hassan had contended that his two brothers had business relations with Ibrahim Maneka, the son of first lady Bushra Bibi, from previous husband Khawar Maneka.
He said Ijaz Ahmad, one of his brothers, had borrowed a car from Maneka which was damaged in a road accident. At this, he said, Maneka started demanding a huge amount as compensation. He alleged Maneka being an influential person got picked his two brothers – Ijaz and Ahsan – with the help of local police.
The petitioner said he approached the respondent for the release of his brothers but he declined to do so until the payment of Rs150 million.
A police report filed before the court on previous hearing had said the alleged abductees were neither required in any case nor were taken into custody.
