HYDERABAD, Aug 24: Member of the National Assembly and Pakistan People’s Party leader Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur, in a statement faxed to Dawn here on Wednesday, welcomed the deployment of army and Rangers in Kohistan (Jamshoro) for the local body elections to maintain law and order.

The PPP leader said that he had sent a telegram to the acting chief election commissioner requesting him to authorize army to check rigging at polling stations.

Mr Talpur alleged that a federal minister from Dadu had held a secret meeting with the senior administrative officers to chalk out a strategy to manipulate the LB polls. He also alleged that the district police officer of Jamshoro was a dishonest person and would help in fixing the election results.

The MNA expressed fear that rigging would lead towards violence in the area.

He said a campaign should be launched against quacks who were responsible for spread of diseases like AIDS and Hepatitis B and C.

The DG said that PMDC should have its branches in all provinces of the country to solve the problems of doctors at the provincial level.

He said that it was for the first time in the history of Pakistan that a doctor from the interior Sindh would be representing his community at the federal level.
