NAWABSHAH, Aug 24: Sindh Corps Commander Lt-Gen Syed Athar Ali visited Nawabshah district on Wednesday to review security arrangements for the second phase of local body elections.

He was accompanied by the Director-General of Pakistan Rangers, Sindh, Maj-Gen Javaid Zia and Pano Aqil Cantonment GOC Maj-Gen Saleem Nawaz Mela.

The corps commander was received by Indus Rangers commandant Col Mohammad Zameer Khan and was taken to the Rangers headquarters where Col Zameer briefed him on security arrangements and deployment of forces.

Later, talking to newsmen at the Rangers headquarters, Lt-Gen Athar Ali said that first phase of local body elections was held peacefully because of joint efforts of law-enforcement agencies. He said that all efforts were diverted towards 12 districts of Sindh for conduct of second phase of local body elections in a peaceful manner.

He informed that troops from Karachi and other districts where elections have been held in the first phase were moved and police was also re-organised for the second phase.

He said that it was the responsibility of the election commission to conduct free, fair and transparent polls and the army, Rangers and police was fully responsible for law and order situation.
