RAWALPINDI: Former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PML-N leader Ahsan Iqbal, who were granted bail by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday, were released from Adiala jail on Wednesday.

A two-member bench of the IHC granted bail to Mr Abbasi in LNG case while Ahsan Iqbal was given bail in the Narowal Sports City corruption case.

The release of the two PML-N leaders came about after former MNA Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry brought their release orders and handed them over to the jail superintendent.

The IHC had also directed that Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Ahsan Iqbal be released after submission of surety bonds of Rs10 million each.

A large number of PML-N workers and leaders including former MNA Shakeel Awan, Javaid Murtaza Abbasi, Musadiq Malik, Malik Ibrar and Sardar Yousuf were present outside the jail to receive their leaders. Supporters showered rose petals on their leaders as they stepped out of jail.

PML-N workers had set up camps along the route to express solidarity with their leaders. Both PML-N leaders did not talk to media after their release.
