LAHORE: The University of Chakwal Syndicate on Saturday approved setting up departments of geological sciences, anthropology, salt and mines, tourism and agriculture.

The first meeting of University of Chakwal Syndicate was held at Committee Room of New Minister’s Block here on Saturday.

The meeting was chaired by Punjab Minister for Higher Education Raja Yasir Hamayun Sarfraz while Punjab Minister for Mines and Minerals Hafiz Ammar Yasir, MPA Raja Yawar Kamal, MPA Asia Majeed, Higher Education Department (HED) Secretary Sajid Zafar Dall, Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Dr Fazal Khalid, University of Chakwal Vice Chancellor Dr Anayat Ullah and representatives of law and finance department were present.

The syndicate also approved the name of Chakwal College of Science and Arts for the constituent college of the university. It was decided in the meeting to continue the same fee structure for all the programmes.

The syndicate directed to present matters related to start of new programmes and curriculum issues of the university with the recommendation of the academic council in the next meeting.

The syndicate had given approval for setting up departments of geological sciences, anthropology, salt and mines, tourism and agriculture according to the regional importance.

The meeting also approved to adopt the rules and regulations of the Engineering University Taxila in the University of Chakwal.

It also accorded approval of a member for the chairman of the securities committee and the members for the selection board and finance and planning committee were also approved.

The syndicate directed that matters relating to appoint teaching and non-teaching staff be discussed in the finance and planning committee.

The syndicate also approved the setting up of a laboratory for the e-Rozgaar Program of the Punjab government in the university.

Mr Sarfraz said the department was not increasing fee of under-graduate students of the constituent college of the university.

He said the government was not only setting up new universities and was working to improve quality of education in already existed educational institutions.

He said the government wanted to established universities of international standard and world ratings of universities was improving with the policies of the government.

He said the quality of the degrees would provide better job opportunities to youth and universities should select subjects keeping in mind the needs of market.
