Small dams to be set up in Larkana

LARKANA, Jan 16: The district government, Larkana, plans to establish small dams in the famine-affected areas of Larkana along with extending other essential facilities.

It was decided here in a meeting on Wednesday with the district coordination officer (DCO), Larkana, M. Hashim Leghari, in the chair.

The remote and hilly areas of Shahadkot, Warah, Kambar and Mirokhan have been selected for conducting primary studies with the coordination of the officials of the Arid Zone Development Authority.

The participants were asked to undertake an extensive survey of the affected areas including preparing maps indicating villages and other points.

At the outset a plan of spending Rs300 million would be prepared encompassing the provisions of health, drinking water, irrigation, education, and social services for the areas.

It would open a new chapter of development in this belt, the meeting was told.

CENTENARY CELEBRATIONS: The Sindh governor will inaugurate the centenary celebration functions of Larkana on Feb 28 to be held here to commemorate 100 years of Larkana District.

The DCO, Larkana, in this connection chaired a meeting on Wednesday in the Cadet College Larkana where almost all the programmes were finalized.

The centenary celebration fund will be established which will also see to it that old books regarding Larkana District are reprinted.

Larkana was made a district in 1901 after being carved out from Shikarpur District.

An agriculture exhibition along with seminars and symposiums will also be held to mark the centenary of this district. Recreational and cultural programmes too will be held on the occasion.

PPP(SB) HOLDS PROTEST: The PPP(SB) and its sister organizations held a protest rally on Wednesday against the torture of prisoners.

They demanded that prisoners stopped being tortured in jails and the killers of Mir Murtaza Bhutto be arrested.
