BAHAWALPUR: Two isolation wards – one each at the Bahawal Victoria Hospital (BVH) and the Government Civil Hospital, Jhangiwali Road -- have been established amid the emergence of the novel coronavirus.

This was stated by BVH’s pulmonologist Prof Dr Azam Mushtaq while speaking to notables, traders and religious scholars here on Tuesday.

Dr Mushtaq advised people to use face masks for protection from flu and cough.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (general) Aamir Nazir Kichi who chaired the meeting, asked the participants to strictly maintain cleanliness and raise awareness among people, especially students, as to how to adopt preventive measures against the coronavirus.

Meanwhile, a joint meeting of the jail superintendents and deputy superintendents was held under the chairmanship of DIG prisons Mohisn Rafique.

The participants delivered lectures to the prisoners of local jails about the preventive measures. They said there was a need to have adequate reserve stocks of medicines.

FOUND DEAD: A young man was found dead in the canal in the Khairpur Tamewali police jurisdiction about 45 kilometres from here on Tuesday.

The body of a young man was found floating in the canal near Khairpur. Police found it and sent the body to the THQ hospital for postmortem.

According to DPO’s PRO Jam Sajid, there were no marks of torture on the body and the causes of his death could be known after the postmortem examination.

The Khairpur police had registered a case under section 174 of PPC and a search for deceased’s family had been started in the area.
