The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will honour Olympic swimmer Kiran Khan and the country's top-ranked female tennis player Sarah Mahboob on March 8 — International Women's Day.

According to a press release issued by the PCB on Friday, the two athletes will be honoured for their services though the Hamaray Heroes platform.

Khan has been recognised by the World Olympians Association for representing Pakistan at multiple Olympic events and is a recipient of the Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, the statement said.

Over the course of her career, Khan has bagged 327 national gold medals and 47 medals in international competitions, it added.

Mahboob is the first female tennis player from Pakistan to secure a qualification in the main draw of an International Tennis Federation’s tournament — a feat that she achieved in 2010, the statement read.

In 2004, she became the youngest-ever Pakistani national champion, at the age of 14, and is currently the country's top-ranked female tennis player, it added.

Hamaray Heroes is a user-based campaign launched before the start of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2020 through which fans and followers can nominate the nation's unsung heroes through the PSL website.

According to the statement, members of Pakistan's national women's cricket team will also attend the PSL match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings on Sunday, and will lead the teams from the dug-outs to the middle.

PCB Commercial Director Babar Hamid, said: “Women are an integral part of any society and play an enormous role in its development.

“The PCB [...] has decided to use the PSL platform to celebrate the women of our country and create awareness [...] to make our society more inclusive," he said.
