Dawn reporter Hasan Mansoor laid to rest

KARACHI: Hasan Mansoor, a senior reporter at Dawn who passed away on Thursday evening at his residence at the age of 54, was laid to rest on Friday.

His funeral prayer, held after Friday prayers at Masjid-i-Khizra near the Sindh High Court, was attended by a large number of journalists, leaders of political and religious parties, lawmakers, literary and academic figures. He was laid to rest at Mewashah graveyard where his ancestors are also buried.

Survived by a widow, a teenage son and daughter, Hasan had over three decades of experience in journalism during which he also served in Sindhi newspapers, The Star, The Nation, Daily Times and AFP.

He was also a short-story writer and poet.

His soyem will be held on Sunday at the same mosque for gents between Asr and Maghreb prayers, while for ladies arrangements have been made at his residence, Paradise Palace Apartments, near the Press Club.

Tributes

Journalists and others paid rich tributes to Hasan Mansoor.

Chief minister’s spokesperson and his former colleague Rasheed Channa said that he had worked with Hasan Mansoor for around eight year at The Star.

“He was a simple, sincere and intellectual type of person.”

JPMC executive director Dr Seemin Jamali said that Hasan Mansoor was a senior and balanced journalist.

“He did the most difficult report on health issues with great compassion and authenticity,” observed Dr Jamali.
