SUKKUR, Aug 26: Leaders of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam have accused the government of large -scale rigging in the second phase of the local body elections and have urged the chief election commissioner to resign.

Addressing a joint meeting in Madrassa Manzil Gah here on Friday, secretary of the JUI Sindh, Dr Khalid Mehmood Soomro, Maulana Abdul Qayoom and Maulana Mohammad Murad Halejvi said that despite protest by the opposition parties against the massive rigging in the first phase of local body election in Sindh and Punjab, the government did not take any notice and worst-ever rigging was again carried out in the second phase by the government-backed candidates.
