LAHORE: A judicial magistrate at Model Town Courts on Wednesday granted Naseerabad police five-day physical remand of Senior Superintendent of Police Mufakhar Adeel in murder case of former assistant advocate general Shahbaz Tatla.

The police produced the suspect before the court amid strict security arrangements.

A public prosecutor filed report of initial investigation conducted by the police, saying the suspect had confessed his crime during interrogation. He said the suspect murdered the lawyer in a brutal way which was shocking for public conscience.

He said further custody of the suspect was required for investigation, recovery of weapon and the dead body.

Magistrate Shazia Mehboob noted that the suspect had been implicated in the case on the basis of his disclosure.

She granted five-day custody of the suspect to the police for recovery of the body of the ex-law officer and completion of investigation. She directed the police to produce the suspect again on March 16.

SSP Adeel and Tatla had been missing since Feb 7 last. As per media reports, Asad Bhatti, a common friend of both, told the police that Adeel murdered Tatla and disposed of his body by throwing it into a drum of acid.

The police officer surrendered to the police a couple of days ago.
