LAHORE: A judicial magistrate at Model Town courts on Saturday remanded a man in five-day police custody on a charge of supplying acid and drum to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mufakhar Adeel to dispose of the body of former assistant advocate general Shahbaz Tatla.

The suspected officer was already on physical remand with the police till March 16. Police had told the magistrate that the suspect had confessed to his crime during the initial interrogation. They said he murdered the lawyer brutally.

SSP Adeel and Tatla had been missing since Feb 7. As per media reports, Asad Bhatti, a common friend of both, told police that Adeel murdered Tatla and disposed of his body in a drum of acid. The SSP ended his mysterious disappearance and surrendered to the police a couple of days ago.

Bail: A district and sessions court on Saturday granted post-arrest bail to a man facing a charge of assisting his wife in killing their teenage maid.

Chuhng police had registered a case against Dr Humaira and her husband Junaid in January. Police investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly killed her domestic worker Sana, 14, through physical torture. Police had recovered the body from the doctor’s house.

The couple claimed that they found Sana dead when they returned home from work. However, police claimed the duo used to torture their maid often, who succumbed to her injuries due to non-provision of medical treatment.

Junaid through his counsel contended that the maid died of injuries she suffered after falling from the stairs. He said the petitioner and his wife were at work when the incident took place at the home. The counsel said the couple took the maid to hospital. He asked the court to release the petitioner on bail.

The court granted bail to the petitioner against two surety bonds of Rs100,000 each.
