HYDERABAD: The driver of Sukkur Express suffered injuries when he jumped out of the engine to save his life after the locomotive rammed into a stationary goods train on loop line near Matiari early on Monday.

The Sukkur Express was coming to Karachi from Sukkur when it ploughed into the goods train at 4.30am. The train’s driver was not vigilant and caused the accident, according to an official at the railway control room in Karachi. The driver had been admitted to hospital.

One bogie of the goods train flipped over onto nearby land where some katcha houses were located. But luckily no one was reported hurt. Two other empty bogies of the train were damaged.

A crane rushed to the spot and removed wreckage. The goods train was already sitting on the loop line but Sukkur Express driver ignored the signal and rammed into it, said sources.
