KALAYA: Two constables were martyred in an attack on a police station in the Arghunja area of Orakzai tribal district’s upper subdivision on Wednesday night.

Official sources said that armed men attacked the police station with heavy weapons. Martyred officials were identified as Constable Yahya and Constable Akhtar Janan.

Funeral prayers for the deceased held at the district headquarters on Thursday were attended by senior officers and notables. After the funeral prayers, bodies were sent to their ancestral villages.

Talking to media after the funeral prayers, District Police Officer Nisar Ahmad Khan said that personnel of police and Frontier Corps were jointly manning the police station.

He said the miscreants attacked the police station with heavy weapons and fled. He said that additional force was sent to the area and a search operation was conducted.

It is worth mentioning that a military officer and three soldiers were martyred in an exchange of fire with militants in North Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday. Seven terrorists were killed in the intelligence-based operation conducted in Dattakhel area.
