SUKKUR, Aug 29: RPO Niaz Siddiqi has ordered police to arrange medical check-up of 12 people who were tortured during the local body elections in the Khairpur district. The RPO issued the orders on the complaint of former district nazim Nafisa Shah.

She produced the injured in front of the RPO and told him that they had been kidnapped and tortured by workers of the Hur group of the Pir Pagaro on August 25. The RPO assured her of strict action against the responsible.

Later, addressing a press conference at the Sukkur press club, Nafisa Shah demanded that fresh polls be hold in Khairpur because massive rigging was done in the elections. Ms Shah alleged that more than 1,000 activists of the Hur group occupied polling stations in Nara taluka and Khairpur and handed over filled ballot boxes with bogus votes to the presiding officers. —Correspondent
