LONDON: British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was admitted to intensive care unit as his condition worsened on Monday afternoon a day after being hospitalised with coronavirus.

He was moved to the ICU at the hospital on the advice of his medical team in case he needed to use a ventilator, according to his Downing Street office press release.

“The PM has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab... to deputise for him where necessary,” it added.

Johnson was admitted to St Thomas’ Hospital in London on Sunday with a temperature and a cough after testing positive for coronavirus on March 27.
