KOHAT: The Shahpur union council of Kohat with a population about 60,000 people lacks a girls high school, paved streets and clean drinking water.
Shakir Bangash, a social worker, told Dawn that there were only two government boys high schools in the area. He said mostly the people were poor and could not send their children to colleges in other areas.
Shah Mehmood, a former local government member, said the streets in the union council were unpaved. He said the local bodies did not get any funds to carry out uplift schemes in the area.
Noor Alam, another local, said Teen Talab and Boraka localities were facing acute water shortage. He regretted that people were forced to collect rainwater from stagnant ponds as tubewells dug up long ago were yet to be made functional. The locals appealed to the lawmakers to pay attention to their problems.
HEALTH STAFF HONOURED: A police contingent presented guard of honour to the medical staffers manning the isolation wards and the quarantine centres for leading the fight against Covid-19.
The contingent was led by SP operations and DSP headquarters.
The police officers said the health staff deserved to be honoured for their services to the ailing people.
On the occasion, KDA Teaching Hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Raheem Khattak appealed to the people to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the government to contain coronavirus.
Meanwhile, drug inspectors collected samples of unbranded sanitisers from various drug stores and sent them to Peshawar for testing. The officials said under these circumstances nobody would be allowed to play with the lives of people by selling them substandard items.
SWINDLER ARRESTED: The anti-corruption department on Wednesday arrested an official for minting millions of rupees from youth for providing them jobs in different departments on fake appointment letters of officials concerned.
The department conducted an inquiry and arrested Imdad Hussain, a Levies man doing duty at the deputy commissioner’s office for his involvement in the illegal practice.
FUNDS DISTRIBUTION: A meeting chaired by deputy commissioner Abdur Rehman on Wednesday discussed the process of distribution of funds among the deserving people under the Ehsas Programme.
The participants were informed that data of the deserving families had been collected by Nadra and that as soon as the money was released it would be distributed among them.
