HARIPUR: The residents of Choo union council have complained about water shortage.

Raja Nazir, Shaukat, Haji Ghafoor and other residents told reporters that the tubewell of Choee water scheme, which was the only source of drinking water for Choee, Karlan, Mohra Ghazan and a couple of small adjoining areas, was made functional two months ago after remaining out of order.

They said water supply to the area came to a halt again three days ago and the tubewell operator disclosed that the machine had gone out of order.

The residents said the women and children had to fetch water from distant areas. They demanded the early fixing of the fault for smooth water supply. When contacted, the public health engineering department officials said the faulty machine was being replaced and the water supply would resume within few hours.

The police said the Tehsil Road fire was caused by an electric short-circuit and it destroyed stationary items and grocery valuing hundreds of thousands of rupees.

The rescue workers and police controlled the fire after an effort of around one hour.
