DERA GHAZI KHAN: Eight people at the Central Jail Dera Ghazi Khan – six prisoners and two warders – tested positive for coronavirus, Health Chief Executive Officer Dr Khalil Shikhani told Dawn on Monday.

Samples of 13 inmates were dispatched to the laboratory for test.

The jail officials have been admitted to Recep Tayyip Erdogan Hospital Muzaffargarh while the six prisoners have been quarantined in the jail. More prisoners will be screened too.

Thirteen medics of teaching hospital of Ghazi Khan Medical College and one private practitioner have already been quarantined after the confirmation of their tests.

The commissioner said that a 20-bed isolation ward had been established at the central jail.

Lodhran nurse among the latest cases

A spokesperson for the teaching hospital told Dawn in charge of emergency ward Dr Zafar also tested positive for Covid-19 and he had been quarantined at the teaching hospital. At present, the total number of coronavirus positive paramedics of Dera Ghazi Khan is 14.

GUJRAT: An inmate of the District Jail Jhelum has tested positive for Covid-19 after which the health authorities took swabs of 20 more prisoners.

A prisoner of Pind Dadan Khan had symptoms of the virus and his samples were taken a couple of days ago.

Twenty patients of Covid-19 have recovered from the infection in Jhelum where total number of infected patients has now come down to 53.

In Gujrat district, the number of confirmed cases went up in the last couple of days and the total number of such patients has been reduced to 110.

Twenty-five people recovered and one died last week.

The increase in number of patients stems from 29 cases alone from two families who were infected through two different expatriate Pakistanis –one from Germany and the other from England.

LODHRAN: A staff nurse of the Dunyapur Tehsil Headquarters Hospital tested positive for coronavirus.

According to focal person Dr Amir Bashir, the administration shifted her to the isolation ward. Before this, another health official of the hospital had also tested positive last week.
