TAXILA: Attock police on Tuesday donated 91 bottles of blood for thalassaemia patients to overcome the shortage of blood during the coronavirus lockdown.

A blood donation camp was set up at the police lines in collaboration with the Thalassaemia Welfare Organisation. Officers and personnel from the

police, elite force, wireless telecommunication section and other wings donated blood.

According to an office-bearer of the organisation, amidst prevailing lockdown the patients of thalassaemia were facing an acute shortage of blood.

He said the coronavirus pandemic had put the lives of thousands of patients at risk for want of timely supply of blood.

He said the pandemic had brought voluntary blood donations to a virtual standstill, adding blood shortage can have a serious impact on patients fighting thalassaemia or cancer.

District Police Officer (DPO) Kahlid Hamdani said it was an honor for the police to participate in the life-saving activity. He said the police were cognisant of its social responsibilities.

The DPO said the Attock police would continue participating in such activities and urged all stakeholders to support the cause.
