As the Covid-19 pandemic spreads uncertainty and hardship in Pakistan, the Kasuri family and Mahmud Ali Kasuri (MAK) Welfare Trust are stepping forward to help those affected in their long tradition of contributing to the nation in times of crisis.

A combined sum of Rs60 million has been contributed in the nation’s fight against the coronavirus outbreak.

Of the Rs60 million contribution, Rs20 million each have been pledged by the Kasuri family and MAK Trust to form a fund of Rs40 million that will cater distribution of ration packs to families of daily wage earners impacted by the economic crisis. An additional Rs20 million have been contributed to the Prime Minister’s Covid-19 Relief Fund.

Challenges that have sprouted out of the coronavirus outbreak have been especially worrisome for the daily wage earners, who play a key role in our country’s economic structure.

In the tradition of contributing to national crises and in the uplifting of the most underprivileged, the Kasuri family and MAK Welfare Trust launched the Covid relief campaign 'Har Qadam Pakistan Kay Saath' on April 13, 2020.

Chairman of MAK Welfare Trust Mian Khurshid Mahmud Kasuri and Co-Chair Mr Nassir Kasuri said, “Since 1994, the Trust has been discreetly engaged in various welfare and education projects for the underserved without seeking publicity. We are now launching the campaign 'Har Qadam Pakistan Kay Saath' to support daily-wage workers during these testing times. We also hope that our contribution to the Prime Minister’s Fund will make a small difference to the government’s effort towards combating this pandemic.”

The campaign 'Har Qadam Pakistan Kay Saath' serves cities severely hit by the pandemic.

To accomplish the campaign's core task, Mahmud Ali Kasuri Welfare Trust has joined hands with the renowned Akhuwat organisation leveraging its grass root level network to identify and serve over 13,000 households in Lahore, Karachi, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, and Kasur.

Currently, teams are engaged in their communities with Akhuwat distributing ration packs enabling food supplies for a family of five for a month.

Mrs Nasreen Kasuri, Founder of Beaconhouse school system and a key donor of the MAK Welfare Trust, believes strongly in the deeply ingrained culture of social responsibility at Beaconhouse.

Speaking about the initiative, she said, “This is a time when we all need to come together and support the government’s efforts. I am happy to see that many private organisations and individuals have stepped up. On behalf of Beaconhouse, I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our doctors, healthcare workers, and law enforcement agencies who are all on the frontlines of this battle.”

Mrs Kasuri added: “While the initial drive is privately funded, many of our employees and students have also expressed a desire to play a role but cannot manage the procurement and distribution of ration on their own. In the next stage, therefore, we hope to create a pathway for the Beaconhouse community and others to contribute to this initiative on a voluntary basis. This will enable the Trust to extend its reach beyond our initial pledge.”

Speaking of the campaign, Regional Director South, Mr. Ali Raza has sent out an important message:

Over the last 45 years, as Beaconhouse grew, its outreach to society also multiplied as part of its social responsibility initiatives, and profoundly touched and improved lives of people, young and old across Pakistan.

The campaign Har Qadam Pakistan Kay Saath aims to provide essential food items to over 13,000 deserving families in collaboration with Akhuwat.
