KOHAT: The business community has assailed the district administration for enforcing the lockdown ‘only in Kohat city’, while letting it loose in other areas.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, president Tajir Action Committee Haji Abid Khan and secretary general Israr Shinwari said the officials only visited the city bazaars and conducted the flag march there daily.

They claimed that the bazaars in the areas of cantonment, Mohammad Riaz Shaheed, Ustarzai, Shakardarra, KDA, Bilitang, Gumbat, Jungle Khel Jarma and Lachi bustled with people.

PICK AND DROP FACILITY: The police are providing pick and drop facility to the elderly visiting the Ehsaas Kafalat Programme centres to receive cash assistance.

District police officer Mansoor Aman has directed the police to provide chairs and drinking water to the aged when at the distribution centres.

A statement said distribution of money at 37 centres was going on smoothly under the supervision of police, and women were being particularly facilitated.

Meanwhile, an awareness campaign has been launched to sensitise the people to the importance of observing precautions to contain Covid-19.

Talking to journalists, DPO Mansoor Aman said the police had allowed offering of prayers in mosques with the instructions to the prayer leaders to avoid big gatherings.

He said it was not possible to enforce an effective lockdown without the help of business community, the elders and prayer leaders.

He made it clear that complete lockdown had not been lifted as shopping malls, educational institutions, large gatherings, marriage halls and playgrounds were still closed.

RATION DISTRIBUTION: The social and welfare organisations have arranged rations after raising fresh contributions from philanthropists for the coming Ramazan Dastarkhwan.

Talking to Dawn on Friday, Al-Khidmat Foundation president Sahibazada Pir Faheem said the charity would provide dry ration before and during Ramazan to 600 people daily.

He said it had distributed ration among 2,100 people.

President of Kohat Students Federation Mohammad Hanan Shah said the body had arranged money donated by the students of the Kohat University of Science and Technology for distribution among 400 deserving people.
