SUKKUR: Several spells of light and moderate rain coupled with thunder storm pounded Sukkur after midnight Sunday and continued into early Monday morning causing flooding in low-lying areas and inundating roads and streets in almost the entire city.

The showers turned the otherwise hot weather pleasant but clouds drifted away leaving the sky clear for sunshine.

Electricity went off as soon as the rain started and could not be restored for many hours in most areas.

Sanitation workers did not turn up to clear rainwater from thoroughfares.

Rainwater flowing on roads and in streets caused unhygienic conditions as it carried garbage from unattended heaps scattered in most localities owing to the absence of municipal workers amid lockdown.

There had been widespread complaints from residents of rain-hit areas about foul smell filling localities.
