SWABI: The district agriculture department has received 20 latest wheat harvest machines to be made available to the local farmers on rent so they could swiftly complete the harvest process.

District agriculture specialist Dr Mir Khatham said on Tuesday the modern machines were handed over to them by the agriculture officialswho came from Faisalabad industrial zone to also educate the local staff on how to operate them.

He said the machines would be used in the district for the first time. He said that keeping in view standing wheat crop over vast area in the district they had demanded 56 machines and planned to give one machine each to every union council.

Other officials said the machines would be handed over to agriculture management committees and its members would monitor the activities to complete the harvest as soon as possible.

They said the machines were bought by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa agriculture department and the farmers would be charged for harvest on per hour use basis. The rates would be decided by the management committees.

MAN DROWNS: A young man drowned while bathing along with his friend in a local canal.

Police said that Bilal Khan, 22, of Sheikh Jana village slipped into deep water during bathing and could not come out. Rescue 1122 team recovered the body after efforts of over two hours.

Meanwhile, a woman was found involved in the murder of her husband. Yar Hussain police SHO Shahzad Khan said the woman implemented her plan with the help of a person not related to her.

The incident occurred in Kotha Nazar Banda in Yar Hussain. Husan Bibi, mother of the deceased, said after hearing gunshots she came out of her room and saw her son Faid Ali lying on ground. She said her daughter-in-law also told her that thieves had also taken her ornaments.

However, police arrested Mehdat Bibi, wife of the deceased, and during investigations she admitted that she killed her husband with one help of Qayyum with whom she had illicit relations. The police also arrested Qayyum and have recovered a pistol and ornaments.

Also in the day, a police constable, identified as Bahadar Ali, died when his motorcycle fell into a ravine here on Tuesday.
