World’s largest Rubik’s cube record
A British puzzle enthusiast recaptured his Guinness World Records title by building a Rubik’s cube that measures six-feet and seven-inches on each side.
Tony Fisher, who held the record for the world’s largest Rubik’s cube from 2016 until 2018, said his latest creation took about 330 hours to build.
The fully functional Rubik’s cube stands six feet, seven inches tall, and was enough to retake the record from the TELUS Spark science museum in Canada, which assembled a five-foot, six-inch Rubik’s cube. Fisher’ interest in puzzles began in 1980, when he received his first Rubik’s cube at the age of 14. He made puzzle design his full-time job in 2010.
Stray puppy turns out to be a fox cub
Animal rescuers in Britain said a man who brought a stray puppy home from a construction site later discovered the animal was actually a fox cub.
The RSPCA said the worker found the baby animal at the building site in Merseyside and took it to his home in Speake, where he soon realised it was a fox cub and not a domestic dog. Animal Welfare Officer Matt Brown retrieved the cub from the man’s house. Brown said the cub, which appears to be under a month old, is in the care of veterinarians and will later be taken to the RSPCA’s Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Nantwich.
A wedding attended by cardboard guests
A Michigan couple whose wedding plans were thrown into chaos by the coronavirus pandemic said the pews were still full during their ceremony — but the guests were all made of cardboard.
Dan Stuglik and Amy Simonson said about 160 people had been due to attend their wedding in Dowagiac, but the Covid-19 lockdown left them with a suddenly empty guest list.
Stuglik enlisted the help of local company Menasha Packing to provide human-shaped cardboard cut-outs to represent their friends and family during the ceremony.
“I didn’t like the idea of Amy having to walk down the aisle with no one in the pews, that seemed like a very lonely walk, so I wanted something to represent the guests,” Stuglik told. “I went to just buy a few sheets of cardboard and they went in and brought a designer and made some,” Stuglik said.
Welsh town with most traffic roundabouts
A Welsh man said he contacted Guinness World Records to alert the group that his town has the world’s highest concentration of roundabouts.
Brian Dougal said he learned the town of Milton Keynes, England, currently holds the Guinness World Record for highest number of roundabouts per square kilometre, with an average 1.46 of the circular intersections per every 1 kilometre.
Dougal said he thought his hometown of Cwmbran might have that record beat, so he analysed the town’s roads and discovered it has an average 2.75 roundabouts per square kilometre, shattering the previous record.
“Driving around in circles in our town can be a headache. But at least we can enjoy getting dizzy knowing that there is nowhere else in the world like Cwmbran,” Dougal said.
