LAHORE: Three more patients of Covid-19 died in Punjab during the last 24 hours on Monday, taking the death toll from coronavirus in the province to 84.

Two of the deaths were reported in Lahore and one in Faisalabad, according to the official figures released on Monday.

Meanwhile, the number of total confirmed cases in Punjab reached 5,526 after 80 more people tested positive for the virus across the province in 24 hours.All of these cases were reported from non-quarantine centres, showing that the virus was spreading fast locally among citizens.

Of the fresh cases, 44 tested positive in Lahore -- where the tally of confirmed cases jumped to 1,261.

According to the health department spokesperson, no new cases were reported among the Tableeghi Jamaat members, pilgrims from Iran or prisoners.

He further the 22 patients were in critical condition in various health facilities of Punjab.

JHANG: Twenty people, including two women doctors, tested positive for coronavirus.

Jhang reported seven cases, including two women doctors.

Of the doctors, one is posted at the Jhang District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital, while the other is a fresh MBBS.

The other infected people include the younger brother of a doctor, of Chak 214, and a resident of Civil Lines. Also, the fresh three cases are from a family where a woman who tested positive for the virus and died a few days ago.

Up to 14 people of the family have screened positive for Covid-19. The fresh MBBS woman also belongs to the family. All of them were quarantined in their house after they resisted to be shifted to the dedicated isolation centre.

With the fresh cases, the number of positive cases in the district rose to 47, which includes 23 pilgrims.

GUJRANWALA: The number of coronavirus cases in the district is 731 so far while 302 people have been discharged from different isolation wards.

Health Services Director Dr Nusral Riaz told reporters that the health authority tested 6,784 people for coronavirus and of them, 6,191 reports have been received. So far, 5,460 people tested negative that makes 88 percent of the tested people. He added six Covid-19 cases have died so far that is one per cent of the confirmed cases.

SAHIWAL: One person tested positive for Covid-19 in Pakpattan city.

The 42-year-old man approached the dedicated desk at the DHQ Hospital after developing symptom. His house has been marked out of bounds while the street has been sealed.

Local health authorities collected 19 samples of the fresh case’s family.

GUJRAT: Local authorities have collected random samples -- 325 from controlled and 210 from uncontrolled areas -- and of them, eight tested positive for Covid-19 while the result of 225 tests is awaited.

Samples were taken from the fruit and vegetable markets of Gujrat and Jalalpur Jattan as well as the particular areas that had been locked down due to having some positive cases.

Also, the six-month-old daughter of an expatriate was discharged after she tested negative twice, while her father has already defeated the virus.

Of 64 zaireen, who recently arrived in Gujrat, three tested positive.

The total number of recovered cases is 151.

SIALKOT: The number of the confirmed coronavirus cases has increased to 158 from 154, Deputy Commissioner Dr Nasir Mahmood Bashir told Dawn.
