KARACHI: The House Staff Association of the Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre yesterday [April 28] called off its 16-day-old strike. The decision was taken at the general body meeting of the association on the assurance of the Director of the Centre and the “strongest possible support” by the Central Health Secretary about the acceptance of their demands “within a short time”.
A Press release of the association said that in the meantime the promises made by the Director on April 23 would be fulfilled by April 30. It regretted that the strike must have necessarily caused hardship to the patients but added that it was a painful decision which had to be taken to stress the demands of young doctors. The Press release thanked the National Press and the Pakistan Medical Association for extending support to young doctors. — Correspondent
[Meanwhile, as reported by our correspondent in Hyderabad,] Mr Kamil Rajpar, President, Young Doctors’ Association, Hyderabad, today [April 28] said that young doctors of the Liaquat Medical College and Hospital, who are on strike since April 15, had reaffirmed their determination to continue the strike....
