Mother’s Day is just a week away, and you are locked at home, wondering what special thing to do for your mum. Don’t worry, you still have ample time to create something for your lovely mother. Here is a lovely ambient card you can easily make at home.

Note that I have used the quilling method in making the leaves and flowers. If you find it difficult, you can simply cut leaves from the green paper, and small flowers from pink paper.

Things you need:

  1. Papers (pink and white)

  2. Quilling strips (if you don’t have, just cut one centimetre wide and 10-inch long strips from pink and green-coloured paper)

  3. Quilling pen (optional)

  4. Glue stick

  5. Scissors

  6. White popsicle sticks (6)

  7. A-4 sized hardboard

Directions:

  1. Paste white paper over the hardboard, picture 2.

  2. Cut 5-inch wide and 8-inch long piece of pink paper, picture 3.

  3. Cut the corners of the pink paper in circular shape, then paste it over the white paper, leaving more space from the top, picture 4.

  4. Cut 1cm wide and 8-inch long white strips, a small bird house, a small strip from white paper and a tiny bird, see picture 5 carefully.

  5. Paste them on the right-side of pink piece of paper, picture 6.

  6. Make popsicle sticks hedge at the bottom of the pink paper, as shown in picture 7.

  7. To make the leaves and flowers, take the green paper strip and roll it on the quilling pen, secure the end with glue, pictures 8 and 9.

  8. To give the green coil, a leaf shape, just pinch from both sides and you will have the perfect leaf, picture 10.

  9. Make flowers from pink strips by repeating the rolling step on quilling pen, but this time, you have to make a tight coil, then push it slightly upwards from the centre, it will form a cone-like shape, see pictures 11 and 12.

  10. Make at least 11 leaves and six flowers in a similar way, picture 13.

  11. Position them as shown in picture 14.

  12. Give some more detail to the card by making a border, pasting small stars, butterflies or flowers on the empty space of the card.

Write your message and present it to your mother!
