SWABI: Speakers at a gathering arranged for distribution of food items said on Friday that Takal Welfare Organisation (TWO), Swabi, was giving essential commodities to 500 daily wagers in the district during the ongoing lockdown.

The gathering held at Topi TMA was attended by the daily wagers and officials of both the district and tehsil administrations.

Speaking on the occasion, Topi tehsil additional assistant commissioner Mehran Khan said that welfare bodies in the country had been playing a major role in provision of foodstuffs to deserving people during the lockdown being implemented for checking spread of coronavirus.

Chairman of the body Daud Khan said that 70 people got the essential food items while 70 more daily wagers had been selected in Swabi tehsil.

Meanwhile, the police gave edible commodities to 200 auto-rickshaw drivers in Swabi as they had been out of work due to the lockdown. DPO Imran Shahid supervised the distribution.

The speakers said the lockdown would be helpful in controlling the spread of coronavirus.

Al-Khidmat Foundation, a wing of Jamaat-i-Islami, also continued distribution of essential commodities to the poor people in the district.

POLICE TEST: The physical test for police recruitment in the deceased sons’ quota was held after Isha prayers due to Ramazan here on Thursday, said police officials.

DPO Imran Shahid was present during the test of candidates. SP investigations Banaras Khan told this correspondent that several posts had fallen vacant due to retirement of police personnel and the educated sons of those who had laid down their lives while fighting against terrorists were told to submit their applications.

The physical test was held at Shahmansoor police lines, which would soon be followed by medical test.

APPOINTED: Nine newly-appointed doctors have assumed charge of their duty here in Topi tehsil hospital.

Officials in the health department told this scribe that the THQ hospital had been upgraded to category-C and new posts created with the efforts of National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

The doctors would perform their duty in the recently-completed portion of the hospital where a 20-bed isolation ward had been established for coronavirus patients.

The health officials said that with the appointment of doctors the Topi hospital could now easily tackle the growing number of patients from Topi city, Gadoon Amazai and Kotha area.
