CDA committee approves nine project designs

ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Design Vetting Committee (DVC) has approved the designs of nine commercial buildings in the capital.

All the projects will be constructed in private housing societies and it is hoped that construction work will begin as soon as possible.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, pursuant to the announcement by the government regarding the revival of construction activity, CDA held is DVC meeting, which approved nine project designs to be initiated in different parts of the city.

“The decision is taken in accordance with the policy of the federal government for lifting up the construction industry which will eventually generate economic development as well as address the issue of unemployment,” the statement said.

The meeting was attended by various CDA officers including the building control II director, housing societies deputy director, building control II deputy directors I and II and a representative from emergency and disaster management at the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad.

According to the CDA, these projects were approved to create employment opportunities and cater to the city’s requirements. A CDA official who was not authorised to speak on the record said that the designs were of buildings were commercial businesses will be housed on the ground floor and residential units on upper floors.

“The majority of the approved designs were for multi-storey buildings in B-17. It is hoped that construction will start soon, because of which not only will labour have work, but up to 40 other industries that rely on construction - such as iron, windows, bricks, cement and so on - will also benefit,” he said.
