KARACHI: Police on Sunday registered a murder case and arrested two persons in connection with the death of a minor boy whose throat was slit by a kite string in Nazimabad-2 a day earlier.

The Gulbahar police said that four-year-old Sufiyan was travelling on a motorbike with his parents when the kite string claimed his life. He died while being taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Additional Police Surgeon Muhammad Saleem also confirmed that the boy was brought dead to the hospital.

The murder case was registered on a complaint of the victim’s father, Mohammed Sikander, against a boy, Muzammil, and his father, Mansoor, under sections 302 (premeditated murder) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Both of the suspects were arrested.

Meanwhile, city police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon took notice of the incident and directed the police to take action against not only the manufactures and sellers of kites but also against those owners whose roofs was being used for kite flying.

SSP-Central Arif Aslam Rao suspended Gulbahar SHO Inspector Mansoor Ahmed for negligence and demoted him.

Gutka factory raided, two held

Rangers on Sunday claimed to have seized a huge quantity of gutka during a raid on a factory and arrested two suspects.

A spokesperson for the paramilitary force said that the Rangers carried out an intelligence-based action and raided a gutka manufacturing factory in Old Golimar and detained Amjad Husain alias Machati and Sajid Ahmed.

A huge quantity of material, which was considered hazardous for health and equipment were also seized, he said.

“The held suspects belong to Lyari gangs,” he said, adding that they were involved in preparing gutka on a huge scale and selling the same under patronisation of Lyari gangsters.

During an initial probe, the held suspects revealed that they used to pay a hefty sum on a monthly basis as protection money to Sajid alias Golimar and Aga Zikri — both considered to be the ringleaders of Lyari gangs.

“The held suspects’ network of supplying gutka is spread all over Karachi,” the spokesperson said.

The Rangers seized 1,000 kgs of betel nuts, packing material and other hazardous things from their custody.

On a lead provided by the held suspects, arms and ammunition were also seized, the Rangers spokesperson said, adding that the weapons were being used to protect their illegal business.

He said the held suspects were handed over to the police for further legal action.
