SWABI: The Women University Swabi (WUS) decided here on Thursday to launch five new programmes from next academic session, which would start in September.

The decision was made in the first online meeting of academic council of the university. Chaired by vice-chancellor Prof Shahana Urooj Kazmi, the meeting discussed various academic activities. It was attended by heads of departments (HoDs), director academics and other staff members.

Over 2,000 girls are enrolled in the women university and eight girls degree colleges in the district are affiliated with it.

The forum approved several resolutions, including the launch of new programmes and departments, including Department of Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Department of Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Department of Health Informatics and Department of Public Health and Epidemiology under the umbrella of newly-introduced faculty of Allied Health Sciences and Technology.

The participants also evaluated the quality of online courses offered by the university. “The online classes are our first experience. The policy is working as students have become familiar with the new system,” said a member of academic staff.

BODY FOUND: Body of a minor girl, who disappeared from home on Wednesday, was found in a water channel here on Thursday. The incident occurred in Speen Kani village of Razaar tehsil.

Officials of Parmuli police station and parents of the deceased said Wajeeha Khan, 5, was killed by unidentified assailants and there were marks of violence on her body.

When contacted, DPO Shahid Imran said DNA samples had been taken for forensic analysis.
