Peshawar's district administration and police have restricted the main Youm-i-Ali procession being taken out despite a ban on religious congregations.
The procession started from Imambargah Akhundabad but was turned away by authorities from the main Church Road due to the ban.
Nearly 2,500 to 3,000 people including women and children are attending the procession, which is passing through alternate, shorter routes.
Police have blocked the main route of the procession and are asking the participants to return to the imambargah.
