HARIPUR: A 12-year-old girl was shot dead in a remote village of Khanpur tehsil, police said on Saturday.
The motive behind the murder was not yet known.
SHO Khanpur Siddique Shah said the girl was at home alone after Iftar in Kainthal village when an unknown man entered her residence and shot at and injured the girl critically.
The neighbours rushed there after hearing gunshots and found the girl injured.
However, the assailant had made good his escape by then.
The girl was shifted to the tehsil headquarter hospital, where she succumbed to injuries, police and doctors said.
The police have registered murder case against unknown accused.
Meanwhile, a man was killed and his friend injured when a car hit the motorcycle they were riding near Darra Dada Shaheed village in Khanpur on Friday night, police said on Saturday.
They said Waqar, 21, of village Khoee Maira, along with his friend, Mohammad Ibrahim was on way to Khanpur Bazaar on a motorcycle when a recklessly driven car coming from Taxila hit the bike, injuring them critically.
The car driver sped away while the area people shifted the injured to the tehsil headquarter hospital, Khanpur. Later, they were referred to Haripur Trauma Centre, where Waqar succumbed to head injuries.
