GHALANAI: The district education department has released Rs157.28 million to the parent-teacher councils (PTCs) for provision of missing facilities and construction of boundary walls in different schools of Mohmand tribal district.

District education officer Jadi Khan Khalil said here the other day that of this amount Rs52.4 million would be spent on provision of drinking water in 262 schools and Rs98.4 million on construction of boundary walls in 82 schools.

He said that sports equipment would also be provided to children in 54 schools.

“All this money will be utilised through the PTCs, for which 537 such councils have already been set up in Mohmand tribal district,” he said.

The official said that even before this the Mohmand district education department had released a total of Rs55.88 million. He said that group latrines would be constructed in 264 schools.

He said that a good amount of funds would be spent on procurement of furniture and science and IT labs equipment besides solarisation of schools in the tribal district.

NFC OPPOSED: Awami National Party district president MPA Nisar Mohmand has expressed concern over formation of the 10th National Finance Commission (NFC), terming it unconstitutional and illegal.

Talking to mediapersons, he said that appointing an unrelated person as member of the NFC showed incompetence of the government. The MPA said that they would never compromise on their rights and the provincial autonomy.

He claimed that the elected government was not even aware that the inclusion of finance adviser and finance secretary in the commission was unconstitutional.

“We can’t expect from this commission an additional 3 per cent NFC award for the merged tribal districts,” he said. Mr Momand demanded reconstitution of the 10th National Finance Commission.

SECURITY PLAN FOR EID: Mohmand police have chalked out a security plan to prevent any sabotage and terrorism bid on Chand Raat and Eidul Fitr by increasing the checkposts at the entry and exit points of the tribal district.

According to details, a formal security plan issued by district police officer Fazal Ahmad Jan said that police personnel would be on duty in eight tehsils across the district.

The DPO said that strict legal action would be taken against the anti-law and anti-social elements. He added that Eid payers would be held at various places in the district which would be guarded by police personnel.

The DPO instructed all SDPOs and SHOs totake action against celebratory firing and fireworks on Chand Raat and also urged the people to refrain from such acts.
