KOHAT: Unknown assailants shot dead a policeman during a patrol duty here on Tuesday.

The policemen are being targeted by criminal gangs as the police have intensified raids on their hideouts.

The incident took place in Laal Mela area of Mohammadzai. Havaldar Amjad was taken to KDA Teaching Hospital, where he succumbed to injuries.

Earlier, constable Mohammad Adeeb was killed while performing duty at a quarantined street in the city.

SHO Lachi police station, Nazar Hussain, was killed by criminals during the patrol duty. The killers were allegedly eliminated in an operation.

RECYCLING PLANT: A garbage recycling plant, which was to start operations in 2017, could not be completed till date due to funds shortage.

Earlier, a recycling plant executed by the provincial urban development board on Bannu Road costing Rs100 million was abandoned due to failure of the flush system.

Similarly, a huge amount of Rs120 million released by the Asian Development Bank back in 1992 for the improvement of sanitation system and construction of natural fertiliser recycling plants had been rendered useless.

The work on the new plant was launched in 2013 and the building was completed in 2015, and it was announced that it would be made functional within two years.

Adviser to the chief minister, MPA Ziaullah Bangash had also formally inaugurated the plant, but to no avail.

It was declared that the money would be arranged from the oil and gas royalty funds and from the local government for purchase of the machinery, but it could not be done in five years.

Sources said now the TMA had prepared its PC-I for final phase and forwarded it to the local government, and after its approval funds would be arranged.

They said the land where the plant was being constructed was also disputed as it was collective property, but was shown as belonging to an MP who sold it to the TMA.
