SWABI: Old enmity claimed two lives while two persons drowned in the Indus River here on Thursday.
According to police, two people were killed and one was injured when their rivals opened fire on them in Tordher market of Chota Lahor tehsil.
Mohammad Yousaf, a teacher, died on the spot while Aurangzeb and Shamsur Rehman were injured. Aurangzeb later succumbed to his injuries in Bacha Khan Hospital Complex, Shahmansoor.
The cause of the incident was stated to be an old enmity. However, Tordher police was yet to register the case.
In Marghuz region, one son of Mufti Mohammad Irshad drowned in the Indus River during bathing, while divers saved his another son. Search has been launched for recovery of the body of Mohammad Shafiq, 13.
Also in the day, a youngster who came with his friends to enjoy bathing drowned in the Indus River downstream.
Baswar Ali, a security personnel, told this correspondent that soon after Shafiq’s drowning his friends started crying for help, but he disappeared in the deep water. Efforts have been launched for his recovery.
In addition, four people were injured when an auto-rickshaw and a motorcycle collided on Topi Bypass. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital.
Meanwhile, people continued to violate the ban on bathing in the district, but no one could be arrested in this regard. The administration had imposed the ban for one month till July 25.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Mehmood said it had been observed during last few days that large number of people, especially youngsters, from different regions were visiting Pehur High Level Canal, Tarbela Dam downstream and main Machai Canal for bathing and swimming without using life jackets or taking precautionary measures.
