BATTAGRAM: The police shot dead a man in an encounter after he killed five family members, including his two wives, a son, a daughter and a daughter-in-law, in Pazang area of Allai tehsil here on Friday.

Officials said that the man allegedly gunned down his two wives, a son, a daughter and a daughter-in-law late on Thursday night. He also took hostage four other family members, they added.

They said that a police team reached the spot of the incident and asked the alleged assassin to surrender but he refused to do so and started firing on the personnel. As a result, two personnel got injuries. Later, the alleged killer was shot dead in the encounter.

The four people taken hostage by the accused were released. They were identified as a son, two daughters and a grandson of the alleged killer.

The bodies were shifted to a hospital in Banna, and later handed over to family after autopsy.

Police said that they were waiting for medical report to confirm whether the accused was mentally ill or not.

Local residents told Dawn that the alleged killer was not mentally ill and was financially stable.
