QUETTA: Five people, including a woman, were killed and 14 others injured in a road accident at the Quetta-Taftan National Highway near Nushki, about 160km southwest of Quetta, on Sunday.
Police said a car carrying five people was going from Quetta to Kharan when it collided head on with a pick-up coming from the opposite direction. They said 12 passengers were travelling in the pick-up.
Nushki Assistant Commissioner Saleem Dashti told Dawn that drivers of both the vehicles were among the dead.
He said all the injured were shifted to Quetta after they were provided medical treatment at the district hospital in Nushki.
Soon after receiving information about the accident personnel of police and Levies force rushed to the area and shifted the injured and bodies to the district hospital.
Police officials said that the condition of at least six injured was serious who were referred to the trauma centre of the Quetta’s Civil Hospital.
Passengers of both the vehicles were among the dead, said police officer Ali Bugti. He said the cause of the accident was over-speeding.
He said bodies were handed over to families of the victims after medico-legal formalities.
The police identified four of the deceased as Abdul Rasheed, resident of Kharan district; Abdullah Baloch, resident of Kharan; and Mrs Abdul Rasheed Baloch; resident of Kharan, Mohammad Sattar, resident of Samungli Quetta.
