LARKANA: Coronavirus contagion continued to spread in Larkana with additional deputy commissioner-II becoming its latest victim, said health officials on Monday.

The officer isolated himself after he tested positive for Covid-19 while health teams collected 22 samples of staff at the DC office for further tests.

The officials said that all the samples had been sent to the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.

The state-of-the-art laboratory recently established in Chandka Medical College Hospital had also received 250 samples on Friday and Saturday and their results were in process, said sources.

DC office control room said that as of Sunday 50 new Covid-19 cases came to the surface, bringing tally to 273 while one patient had so far died from the virus. The total deaths so far were nine, it said.

In Naudero, a bank officer who had remained under treatment for coronavirus infection in Karachi, died late on Sunday night, said sources.

SUKKUR: Six family members of two Covid-19 patients also tested positive for coronavirus in Shaddani locality in Khanpur Mahar town, raising total figure of Covid-19 patients to 27 in the town.

Health department’s teams had collected samples of family members after the two men had tested positive for the virus and found six among them to have the contagion. They were all quarantined at home.

The team also tried to collect samples of their neighbours but people refused to have tests and closed their doors on them. Shopkeepers in the locality also refused to volunteer for the tests.
