SIALKOT: In the biggest single-day jump, 13 doctors and one nurse of the Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital tested positive for coronavirus on Monday in Sialkot. Moreover, a man and his son died from virus complications in Sheikhupura.

Additional Medical Superintendent Dr Zahid Kaleem told reporters that eight female doctors, of these fresh 13 coronavirus cases, were doing duty at gynea ward of the hospital. This increases the likelihood of virus infection among the patients and newborns too.

Dr Kaleem said the doctors and the nurse had been quarantined in their houses under the supervision of the Sialkot health department.

Earlier in May, three doctors were declared virus positive.

Also, the number of the coronavirus patients increased to 826 from 695 with 131 fresh positive cases in Sialkot district on Monday.

Sialkot Deputy Commissioner Dr Nasir Mahmood Bashir said test reports of 131 quarantined people came positive. They were quarantined in the Allama Iqbal Memorial Teaching Hospital and the Corona Field Hospital.

Man, son die in Sheikhupura

A man and his son died from Covid-19 issues in Ferozewala.

They developed symptoms a few days ago and after remaining under treatment in the local hospital, died on Monday.

Also, two more persons died from the virus while five of a family tested positive for coronavirous in Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib.

Among the deceased include a resident of Sharaqpur. He was shifted to Lahore from the local THQ Hospital. The second deceased is a Sikh from Nankana Sahib.

Industrialist dies in Sahiwal

An industrialist, 71, of Gulshan-i-Noor, died from coronavirus in a private hospital in Sahiwal on Monday.

His family says he tested positive for coronavirus on May 30. He remained on a ventilator for two days.

Also, three more persons tested positive for the virus. They are the residents of Farid Town, village 54/2-L and Tariq Bin Ziyyad Colony.

Also, a municipal corporation employee joined the positive case list.

Moreover, four senior doctors of the DHQ Teaching Hospital have quarantined themselves after they developed symptoms of the virus.

Five positive in Lodhran

Five people tested positive for coronavirus In Khanewal on Monday.

According to a district administration spokesman, five residents of Mian Channu tested positive for virus and their houses in neighbourhood Eidgah.

Focal person for coronavirus Dr Hisham Khan told Dawn these people went to Multan for Eid and spent some days there with relatives.

In Lodhran, according to Medical Superintendent Dr Nabeel Saleem, five patients were admitted to the DHQ Hospital, and among them were a seven-year-old patient from Liaqatpur.

10 new cases in Okara

With 10 positive Covid-19 cases in the last six days, the total number of cases is 32 in the district, says focal person Khurshid Jilani.

He said 16 patients had been discharged from the isolation ward of the DHQ South City Hospital while under treatment patients were in good health.
