Tough fight expected for Swabi nazim

Published September 11, 2005

SWABI, Sept 10: Two main groups are in the run for Swabi district nazim’s post, one is led by political forces and the other by a millionaire, and the elected union council members have to decide between the two on October 6. District president of Awami National Party and a former MNA, Haji Rehmanullah, said this here on Saturday.

His brother Amanullah is contesting for the district nazim’s post as ANP-backed candidate while Shahram Khan is his rival from a conglomerate of eight parties, the Swabi Jamhoori Ittehad.

“It is strange that the leaders of eight political parties have decided to support an entrepreneur and pave the way for horse trading. Reports suggest that the elected councillors have been offered from between Rs1 lakh and Rs3 lakh,” he alleged.

“The brokers have already reached the residence of Mr Shahram Khan and are camping there. Some of them have been rewarded with luxurious vehicles,” he charged.
