SIALKOT, Sept 10: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool on Saturday inaugurated the Express Bonded Cargo Service at the Sialkot dry port near Sambrial-Daska. The dry port management has launched this cargo service on self-help basis for benefiting the business community. The service will be available from the Sialkot dry port to Lahore and Islamabad airports through the dry port’s own vehicles at subsidized rates.

On this occasion, the governor hoped that the cargo service would be helpful in accelerating trade activities.

While addressing local industrialists and exporters at the dry port, the governor said Sialkot had a great potential to capture international markets through export of best quality products.

Khalid Maqbool said the government had restored confidence of foreign investors by introducing investment-friendly policies.

He said the government had also focused on revival of sick industrial units, besides providing employment opportunities to skilled and non-skilled workers on a priority basis.

Earlier, the governor visited site of the under-construction Sialkot international airport near Sambrial-Daska.

He said the airport would open new vistas of economic development in Pakistan’s first-ever ‘Golden Export Triangle’, comprising Sialkot, Gujrat and Gujranwala districts.

Meanwhile, addressing a public meeting at Anwar Club auditorium, Sialkot on Saturday afternoon, the governor said the government was making all-out efforts for providing maximum relief to people through basic facilities.

He urged the newly-elected UC nazims, naib nazims and councillors to elect honest and devoted tehsil and district nazims.

Earlier, the governor distributed Baitul Maal cheques among the deserving people.

Khalid Maqbool also visited the Gepco office in Sialkot, Employees Old-age Benefits Institution and Zarai Taraqiyati Bank Limited.

He directed the authorities concerned to provide maximum facilities to the people. Gepco chief-executive Saifullah Khalid gave a detailed briefing to the governor regarding achievements and future planning of the company.

The governor also distributed cheques among pensioners.
