SWABI: The students of the Women University Swabi and the University of Swabi have complained that they are facing problems while attending online classes due to slow Internet speed. Talking to Dawn here, they said when they joined the class on Zoom App the Internet often got disconnected at the end and they were marked absent.

The teachers took screenshot at the end of each class and those who got disconnected due to Internet problem were marked absent, which led to low attendance of students, said a girl student.

She said many students did not know how to log in to the Zoom App, and often times the teachers gave a password and ID that turned out to be incorrect. She said there was a separate ID and password for each class. Another student said the demand of the teacher to keep the camera on was also an issue because it compromised the privacy of the student and her house.

A student of the University of Swabi said that on Google classroom time was set for submission of the assignment and lab manuals. “If any student did not submit the assignment in the given time he got zero marks,” he said, adding he often experienced such a problem because of disruption in Internet connection.

He said if the examinations were held online, it would be a disaster for them because if any mistake was committed by them in the papers it would badly affect the result, culminating in low GPA.

“Our university does not understand the students’ problem. First we did not agree with the online classes but they forced us to do so, but now they are going to take online examinations on conceptual base, but without any proper guidance. The teachers only send us PDF files or YouTube videos which are not sufficient for learning because learning without teacher is difficult,” said a student.

He added the teachers were also non-cooperative because when they were asked to repeat the topic they plainly refused and advised the students to search on Google.

GIRL KILLED: A man killed a girl in a village in Razaar tehsil when her family refused to engage her with him the other day, said police.

The incident occurred in Ismalia village. Registering FIR, a brother of the girl told police that the victim, 17, was sitting in her home when the accused came there and shot her dead. He said a few days back, the accused demanded that the girl should be engaged with him but the family refused because he was already married.

Meanwhile, the police claimed to have arrested 19 proclaimed offenders wanted in various cases, district police officer Imran Shahid told mediapersons the other day.

The police also recovered four Kalashnikovs, 22 pistols, seven shotguns and various rounds from them, he said.
