HYDERABAD, Sept 11: The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture has expressed concern over, what it calls the negative attitude of sugar mill owners for not fixing sugarcane price and the date for starting the next crushing season. Speaking at a meeting held here on Sunday, Chamber President Syed Qamaruzzaman Shah said that the sugar mill owners did not respond to the growers’ demand of fixing the sugarcane price at Rs65 per 40 kilogramme.
He said the mill owners ignored the demand for scheduling the date of the next crushing season.
The meeting adopted a resolution and called upon the Sindh cane commissioner and the Sindh government to direct the sugar mills to set minimum price of Rs65 for 40kg and the first week of October as crushing season.
Saeen Bux Rind, Agha Nasrullah, Hussain Shah Bukhari, Aijaz Nabi Shah, Dr Shahnawaz Shah and Akhund Ghulam Mohammad attended the meeting.
NURSING COLLEGE: Vice-chancellor of the Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro, Prof Jan Mohammad Memon has said that nursing was a noble profession that had attained great importance in Pakistan.
He was speaking at the concluding ceremony of the sports week at the nursing college, Jamshoro, on Sunday.
He said Liaquat Medical University would extend all help to the nursing college.
Prof Memon disclosed that the Higher Education Commission would soon set up a nursing school at the national level in Islamabad.
ACTION COMMITTEE: The Jamshoro Action Committee staged a protest demonstration and hunger strike outside the local press club here on Sunday against the proposed shifting of the girls’ higher secondary school from Jamshoro to Kotri.
Speaking on the occasion, the action committee leaders Mansoor Birhamani, Sikandar Ali Mari, and Saeeda Channa said that on one hand the government talked about increasing the literacy rate while on the other they would deprive thousands of girls from studying by shifting the school.
They held Jamshoro EDO education responsible for their problem and demanded his removal from the post.
