KOHAT: A young man killed his sister for honour in Tappi area here on Sunday.

The father of the deceased said his son had a fight with his daughter, after which he pulled a gun and shot her dead. He said the victim had been living with them after she was divorced. The Saddar police registered a case against the accused, who fled the area.

FAZL BACKS JIRGA DEMANDS: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has backed the demand of a jirga of Kohat division for provision of gas and other facilities to the oil and gas-producing areas.

It may be recalled that one of the local MPs Shahdad Khan, who is a member of the jirga, is from JUI-F. In a video message, Mr Rehman said it was the first right of the local people over the resources which had been discovered decades ago. He termed it grave injustice with the people by the companies not to provide gas despite repeated appeals and protests.

He said his party would support the proposed protests in that regard. He demanded that the companies also start welfare schemes in the Kohat division, including Hangu. He said big companies could easily resolve the problems of health, water and communication.

BAR POLLS: Javed Panji Advocate won the slot of Kohat bar association president for the fifth straight time by defeating rival Ms Musarrat Shafi Advocate during the annual elections held under strict SOPs. Javed Panji got 173 votes, while his rival grabbed 72 votes.
